Welcome
I have been drawing and painting, off and on, for as long as I can remember. While in school I was preoccupied with math, science, and other technical interests, but I always seemed to use up my "electives" in art courses. Later, while working in the aerospace industry in California, I was fortunate to meet and study with Dan Dickey, who taught drawing and painting at the University of California. Dan had studied with the famous Nicolaides at the New York Art Students' League, and taught his students how important traditional drawing skills are in any art form. He showed us the wonderful world of line, contour, edges, value, and gesture. It remains with me each time I pick up a pencil or brush.
Over time my interests have ranged from representational to abstract non-objective art; from oils, watercolor, printmaking, to in and other drawing media, — even sand casting! Undisciplined for sure, but I love it all.
Current activities center around plein air landscape oil painting, plus a constant dose of drawing, mostly in open studio life drawing groups. I also continue to be attracted to machine-like objects, especially aircraft. The opportunity to continue to paint and learn at the Yellow Barn under the wing of friend and great painter Walt Bartman, perfectly rounds out current activities.
This site is meant to be an informal chronicle of recent art experiences, including a collection of my current paintings, drawings, and miscellaneous other objects. I hope some of the images reflect the personal joy that went into creating them. Comments are most welcome.
